We, the family of the late Brendan McAnallen, The Brantry, wish to record our sincere appreciation of all the assistance and messages of sympathy extended to us during our recent bereavement.
We wish to thank our family circle, friends and neighbours who provided great support before, during and after the wake and funeral. Special mention is due to Brendan’s sister, Margaret Mannion, who did so much to assist the family in caring for him through his last month.
We are grateful to many medical personnel who attended to Brendan, including doctors and nurses at Craigavon Area Hospital; the district nursing team; Drs Grant, Busby and Carlisle of Tynan Surgery; and Gareth and staff of Tynan Pharmacy.
We are indebted to Rev. John Heagney, Eglish, for home visits, prayers and administration of the sacraments; and for concelebrating Requiem Mass so reverently with Rev. Colm Hagan, to whom we are also very thankful.
We cherish also various aspects of spiritual aid provided during the last days, by Rev. Bernard Thorne, Teresa Ghosh, the McGeough family, Terry Hughes, and Pastor Colin Gervais.
Thanks to all participants in the funeral, including the Sacristan, Altar Society, Readers and Eucharistic Ministers; Marie Burns, Pat Casey, Pat Treanor, Síle Downey, Plunkett McGartland and Micheál White, for their beautiful and uplifting music in church; Mickey Kelly for his excellent piping of the cortege; and Éamonn Curran for his graveside rendition.
We pay tribute to E. Quinn & Sons Funeral Directors for their dignified conduct of funeral arrangements, and the gravediggers for preparing Brendan’s final resting place.
We thank our good neighbours for help with wake arrangements, particularly the Ewing family for use of land for parking, and the Downey family. We commend also the volunteers of CLG Naomh Pádraig, An Eaglais, who stewarded at the wake; and players and members of Eglish, Dúiche Néill Hurling Club (Benburb) and Campa Chormaic, who formed guards of honour.
Our gratitude is also owed to staff of McAnallens Spar and the Bottle of Benburb, who took care of the family business during this difficult time, and prepared and catered for the post-funeral meal.
We recognise also the generous media reportage of Brendan in the days following his death.
Finally, we thank everyone who visited the home, kept vigil, attended the funeral, wrote letters or Mass / sympathy cards or other tributes, telephoned, and brought food, gifts or floral tributes. As we cannot thank each person individually, we trust that this acknowledgment will suffice as a token of our sincere appreciation.
Brendan’s Month’s Mind Mass will be celebrated at St Patrick’s Church, Eglish, on Friday 2 September at 7.30 p.m.
