Catherine Jill MALCOMSON
Obituary
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Catherine Jill Malcomson, which occurred peacefully in her sleep at her home on Tuesday, the 12th of September.
Catherine was the eldest daughter of the late John and Dorothy Wallace and she is survived by her husband, Paul, five children Nathan, Rebekah, Grace, Leah and Sam as well as her daughter-in-law, Linda and sons-in-law, Mark McCready, Aaron Megaw and Neville, Gibbons, Grandchildren Alfie, Geordie, Joe, Tommy, Noah, and Tilly. Catherine had two brothers and one sister, Ian, Mervyn and Beverley Wallace.
Catherine was born in Banbridge hospital and lived in Rathfriland where she attended Iveagh Primary School and then Rathfriland High School. Catherine attended Moneyslane Free Presbyterian Church as a child and had a keen musical interest; she was able to play any instrument by ear, but especially loved playing the piano and Scottish bagpipes. Catherine played in Moneygore Pipe Band and enjoyed participating in competitions across Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Catherine came to know the Lord in 1980 at a mission hall outside Rathfriland; she always had a strong faith and was a great witness to her family and friends.
Catherine met Paul in 1986 and they were married in March 1990 before they set up home at Shinn. Catherine was very much a family woman; she was so proud of her five children and was happiest when in the company of her grandchildren who she was known by as ‘Nanny Catherine’.
Unfortunately, Catherine did not get to meet her sixth grandchild and first granddaughter ‘Tilly Catherine’, who arrived only days after her untimely passing.
After Paul and Catherine were married, they attended Ardaragh Free Presbyterian Church, Catherine enjoyed playing the piano at the Tuesday night children’s meetings.
Catherine alongside her family and close friends spent the most of every summer at the caravan park in Cranfield where a lot of happy memories were made over the past several years.
After a short family service at her home, Catherine‘s funeral took place at Ardaragh Free Presbyterian Church; hundreds of family and friends attended which showed how loved and respected she was by all. The church service was conducted by the Reverend Andrew Murray and the Reverend David Smith.
Donations in lieu of flowers if desired, can be sent to Spiers Funeral Service for Ardaragh Free Presbyterian Church Sunday school and children’s meeting.
Catherine will be sorely missed every day by her forever sorrowing family and friends.
‘Absent from the body, present with the Lord’ 2 Corinthians 5:8.
