Jim was a friend, since at least the 1980s, of my mother Rebecca Moulder (Rebecca O'Conner) who lived in Tucson, Arizona, United States. They had a shared love of Irish history and he respected her greatly for writing her book, "Jenny Mitchel, Young Irelander," a biography of the wife of the Irish revolutionary, John Mitchel. As far as I know, they never met in person, but corresponded for many years about their interests.
Jim continued to communicate with me after my mother's death in 2006 (at the age of 96) and, in writing and on the phone, he was always happy to advance my knowledge about Irish history.
I am honored to have known such an interesting and engaged person. Saturday 23 March 2019 Frances Moulder, Connecticut, United States

Peacefully, at hospital, loving brother of Reggie, Agnes, uncle to his nephews and nieces at home and overseas. James was Unique.
A truly remarkable man, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.
His humour, sincerity, his love and dependability touched everyone, all who knew James loved him, he will be sorely missed and his loss leaves a huge emptiness in our hearts.
Goodbye James, Thank You for our beautiful memories and for simply being you.
