What a kind gentleman with a wonderful gift of his singing voice. I first met Andy at the Comber Music Club when on my first trip to Ireland last spring, I played banjo for my segment with another newly met friend Graham Murphy who plays piano, after Andy motioned for my attention and I sat down with him, he told me all of his brothers played the banjo, and lamented that he couldn't get the hang of it..little did I know that he was one of the top Irish Tenor singers in Ireland, and shortly after he got up and sang accompanied by piano..and I could see why, what a voice..at 88 years of age. I again went to Ireland last fall and saw Andy once again, this time for two more session at the Comber Music club and also Graham and I played a little concert at Andy's retirement home, where he gave me a old golf pin as a memento that I cherish..Andy told me one of his bucket lists in life was to visit the Gettysburg Civil War site in Gettysburg Pennsylvania, I do believe he told me he'd never been to the states, I visited Gettysburg just before I was supposed to leave for Ireland and got Andy a DVD set and book of the battle site and was looking forward to seeing him..until this pandemic. I was very saddened when Graham told me of Andy's passing, wish I could have seen him again, I remember our last session at Comber, the night before I was to leave for back home, it was Andy's 89 birthday party, he was so appreciated by everyone, was the last time I'd see him..Rest well in the Hands of the Lord Andy, Heaven just gained a voice of an Angel.
I wish I could have known him longer.
You had a smile for everyone, you had a heart of gold,
you left the sweetest memories, this world could ever hold.
