To Claire's children, Finn, Lana, and Calum, and to all her friends and relatives who mourn her: I often speak from the standpoint of an administrator at the school where she worked closely with me for years, but I want to write today from a completely personal standpoint. Claire was often the spirit of buoyancy who reminded me why I do the work I do, by her compassionate, loving insistence that encouraging children to express themselves through the arts is a deeply valuable, long-lasting gift. Beyond that, she was of enormous support to me, both emotionally and practically. I have missed her terribly since she left our school, and I loved knowing her. May you be comforted in her memory. -
