John was a good friend of mine. We met as teenagers in Donaghadee and by a strange twist of fate ended up following each other into the oil business and then half way round the world to settle in Perth. We had a lot of fun together, sometimes organised get togethers in Perth but more often than not by a chance encounter in a bar in some strange Oil town in SE Asia. He was a great man and I will miss him.
