Latest Sympathy Notices

I am so very saddened to hear this. Sam was a legend in the ENT community. I first worked with him as a very junior trainee in 1999 and later as a registrar and laterally as a consultant colleague. He was one of the last true generalists, equally comfortable with a major ear or a laryngectomy and excellent at everything. His work ethic, pragmatism and humour was inspirational and motivating. The speed he could do most procedures at was astounding. Most of us really enjoyed his sarcastic wit - “scissors not working again?” “I find the diathermy works best when applied to the bleeding point” - at the same time knowing that he was unfailingly available if you needed help. He will be sorely missed and my thoughts are with Liz and his children at this sad time. Tuesday 22 October 2024 Neil Bailie, ENT consultant, RVH

My deepest condolences to the family on this very sad loss. I was fortunate enough to partner Sam when he first started playing bridge and although we acheived some success, it was clear Sam was destined for greater things. To still represent his country in his later years was remarkable. Sam is also fondly remembered by my family whom he kindly treated in his role as ENT consultant. Rest in peace Sam. He was a great and amazing colleague & mentor who was always available and helpful both professionally & personally. He was instrumental in getting my job and helped choose the home we bought. RIP Sam.
Will always dearly miss you Sunday 20 October 2024 Ekambar Reddy
