I described my Auntie Carol as a real-life Mary Poppins.
• Practically perfect — Not flawless, but consistently dependable, steady, and admirable in all the ways that truly matter.
• Firm but kind — She set boundaries with gentleness, never harshness.
• Calm in chaos — She brought order without raising her voice, grounding everyone around her.
• Magical presence — Not literal magic, but that intangible ability to make people feel safe, seen, and uplifted. A calming presence.
• Nurturing strength — She cared deeply while still encouraging independence and resilience.
• Wisdom wrapped in humour — She taught through wit, warmth, and a twinkle in her eye.
• Grace under pressure — She handled difficulty with composure and quiet courage.
• Unshakeable integrity — She did what was right, even when no one was watching.
• A sense of wonder — She found beauty in the ordinary and helped others see it too.
• Transformative influence — People were better — calmer, braver, kinder — because she was in their lives.
The spoonful of sugar…
Her way was simple: a little joy, kindness, or lightness could make even the hardest or most unpleasant tasks easier to bear.
Not only in the metaphorical sense.
If you graced her home even for a second, it was a cardinal sin to leave without a cup of tea and a treat — or five — from the 300 offerings she somehow always had at the ready.
Her generosity wasn’t performative; it was instinctive. A reflex of love.
Her Faith...
She carried an unwavering faith — the kind that didn’t shake even when life was unfair, even when good people got sick, even when suffering made no sense.
When others questioned how there could be a greater good, she held a steadfast belief that was quietly, profoundly inspiring.
She possessed an inner calm that came from that faith.
You felt it.
You absorbed it.
You left her presence steadier than you arrived, even when she was at her worst.
She trusted in goodness — believing that people, life, and love were worth investing in.
She believed in people even when they didn’t believe in themselves.
Her Strength...
Her strength was not loud or dramatic.
It was the strength of someone who keeps going, keeps showing up, keeps caring.
Someone who holds families, friendships, and moments together with quiet conviction.
She was a guiding light — one others leaned on without even realising it.
She lived with purpose, intention, and a heart that didn’t give up.
She fought for life, such a fight.
The Heart of Her Family...
This Mary Poppins woman with unwavering faith became the anchor of her family.
But her family was the source of her light.
She wasn’t strong in spite of her family…
She was strong because of them.
And that’s what makes her loss so deep:
She was the quiet centre of gravity,
the sweetness in the hard days,
and the faith that steadied everyone.
Forever Presence
But the truth is women like her dont disappear.
They leave traces - in the people they loved, in the lives they touched, in the quiet lessons they taught without ever calling them lessons.
Her grace, her goodness, her gentle way of putting the world right... those things stay.
The world is a better place because she was here.
Rest in Peace now you beautiful soul, one of a kind!
You have more than earned your wings. Never more than a thought away, loved and remembered every day.
