19 March 2023.

Dermott passed away peacefully on the 19th March 2023 after a courageous 6 month battle with lung cancer. A widely respected and dearly loved family man, much-loved father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather. brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Commonly known as a wee gentleman.

We, his family wish to express our sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to all those who sympathised, prayed for, and supported us through our recent sad bereavement. We would like to acknowledge all those who paid their respects in any way.

Thank you to those who called to the wake house, telephoned, sent Mass or sympathy cards, flowers or donations and to those who left messages online or via social media. Thanks to those who lined the funeral route or who joined us at the Mass or via the webcam.

Many thanks to all our relatives friends and neighbours, who helped us in so many ways, to grieve as family. Dad’s siblings supported him so closely all through his illness and stood with him every step of the way, your company was a great source of comfort to him and your support will never be forgotten.

To his beloved Tummery Athletic Football Club we would like to thank you all sincerely for the love and respect you showed to Dad, both during his illness and in his death. As a team you made his last days very special, and it brought him immense joy to see the players calling to the house with the League Cup. The social media posts about our ‘Mr Conductor’ were a great comfort to us and a really lovely tribute to Dad. We will forever be grateful to you all and hope he continues to conduct you from above.

We would like to thank the many Doctors and Nurses who Dad came into contact with over his illness, and to the District Nurses and Marie Curie who attended to him in his final days. We appreciate all the support and care he was given that allowed us to have our Daddy pass at home like he wished. And to Ronan and staff at Bradley’s pharmacy we thank you for being so attentive and compassionate throughout Dad’s illness.

A special word of thanks to Father Patrick MacEntee for his spiritual support and the comforting Requiem Mass and to Father Dolan for his spiritual support and the prayers at the house. We convey our appreciation also to everyone who assisted with the Mass, especially the Sacristan, the readers and our Musician Fergal McAloon and Stephen Corrigan who provided the beautiful music. Thanks also goes to the staff of Tyrone and Fermanagh staff for their beautiful words and comments on their Facebook page and for providing a guard of honour for Dad. He loved his time working and the T+F and spoke about it fondly.

Thank you to McAtee Funeral Directors for the dignified and professional manner in which the funeral arrangements were carried out and to the gravedigger for preparing Dermott’s final resting place, he did an excellent job. We would also like to thank Sheenagh of Bumblebee Garden for the lovely floral tributes and the Dromore Ladies Committee for the very welcome refreshments after the burial.

As it is impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgment as a gesture of our family’s deepest gratitude and appreciation.

Dermott is ever loved and sadly missed, may his gentle, generous soul be granted eternal rest, his Month’s Mind Mass will be celebrated in St Davog’s Church, Dromore on Saturday 29th April 2023 at 7pm. Our Lady pray for him.
