Acknowledgement

The family of the late Harry Gallagher wish to express our heartfelt thanks for the kindness, sympathy, prayers, and support received following the loss of our precious and much-loved husband, daddy, granda, brother, and friend.
We were greatly comforted by the many stories shared during Harry’s wake and funeral, reflecting the positive impact he had on so many lives.

We are especially grateful to Clarendon Medical Practice for the outstanding care Harry received over many years, particularly Dr Stephen Lalsingh, whose compassion, expertise, and longstanding relationship with Harry gave us many treasured extra years together, and Nurse Geraldine, whose kindness, friendship, and dedication ensured Harry was always cared for with dignity.

As Harry’s health declined, we greatly appreciated the support of the District Nursing Team and Elderly Persons Social Work Team, especially Máiréad and Ciara, whose care, friendship, humour, and companionship meant so much to Harry.

We also thank Dr Todd and the Hospital at Home team, whose expert care allowed Harry to remain at home and enjoy precious additional time with his family over the last year of his life.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Harry’s own personal team of carers, who built genuine relationships with him and filled his days with laughter, music, banter, and companionship and of course Harry causing mischief and doing plenty of slagging off. You became part of our extended family.

We are sincerely grateful to our relatives, friends, and neighbours for their support during the wake and funeral, and to Fr Con McLaughlin for visiting Harry, administering his last rites, and celebrating a beautiful Requiem Mass that truly celebrated his life. It was especially meaningful that Fr Con had also officiated at Harry and Anne’s wedding 49 years ago.

Thank you to everyone who attended the wake and funeral, sent Mass cards, telephoned, or offered support, and to Kieran of W.J. O’Brien Undertakers for his compassion, professionalism, and guidance throughout.

As it is impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as a sincere expression of our gratitude.

Harry’s Month’s Mind Mass will be celebrated on Saturday 27 June at 1.00pm at the Longtower church, officiated by Fr Con McLaughlin. We will also remember Harry’s beloved and very precious daughter, Debbie (Debs) at this mass.

Heartbreakingly, Debs passed away on 7 May, aged 44. In keeping with her wishes, a celebration of her life and cremation took place in Birtley, Durham. We were comforted by the love and respect shown by her many friends, neighbours, and colleagues that showed up one last time to truly celebrate and honour Debs.

Following Debs’ wishes, her ashes will be placed with her beloved daddy after the Month’s Mind Mass. After the Mass and burial, all are warmly invited to join us at the Maiden City Hotel, Strand Road, Derry, from 2.30pm as we celebrate Debs’ life and remember Harry together.
