The death has occurred of

Irene Ann (Hazel) CUMMINGS

Irene Ann Cummings (Hazel)

Our beautiful mum, sister, nana and friend, Irene Ann Cummings (Hazel) died suddenly at home on Thursday 31st August 2023. Mum was healthy, fit and happy with an energy and passion for living life like no other. Irene suffered from a brain haemorrhage and our only comfort is that her passing was very sudden, which on many occasions she declared in jest that when it was time to go, it should be sudden!

Irene was 75 years young, born on 6th May 1948. Daughter to Elsie and Bobby Nelson, she was the youngest of 3 children. James and Ronnie were her brothers and she was proud for them to be so. Irene went on to have 3 children of her own; Lee, Roger and Steve with her husband of 24 years, Paul Cummings and was an extremely proud Nana to 6 grandchildren; Dylan, Mollie, Brodie, Woody, Blake and Neve who are the children of their own loving mums, Louise, Carla and Imogen.

Irene lost her husband Paul in 1997, after which she married Lionel Hazel who also passed shortly after their wedding in 2001. Both Paul and Lionel both said prior to passing, they were beyond lucky to be able to call Irene their wife. From 2001 onwards, Irene's strength, courage and determination to live the most fulfilling life was evident for all to see.

To our mum, sister, nana and friend, we were and will continue to be so proud of everything you achieved. Irene was the most courageous, selfless, beautiful, loving and caring person any of us knew. Family and friends were always the priority, even over herself and no day will ever pass without her being at the forefront of our minds. Nana Rene as she was known to her grandchildren was quite literally the best Nana ever known and your grandchildren love you more than life itself.

Irene was predeceased by Bobby Nelson (father), Elsie Nelson (mother), James Nelson (brother), Margo Nelson (sister-in-law), Andy Nelson (sister-in-law), Paul Cummings (husband) and Lionel Hazel (husband). Irene is survived by Ronnie Nelson (brother), Laura Gorman (sister), Lee Cummings, Roger Cummings and Steve Cummings (sons), her grandchildren Dylan, Mollie, Brodie, Woody, Blake and Neve and her loyal companion, Alfie the dog.

A funeral service to celebrate Irene's life will be held at Shore Street Presbyterian Church in Donaghadee on Wednesday 13th September 2023. The service will commence at 9:30am and her loving family will be welcoming guests from 9am. Everyone is welcome and if you cannot attend in person, you will be able to view on the Shore Street Church youtube page.

A private family service will take place at Roselawn at 11:20am after which, everyone who knew Irene is welcome to come to a celebration of her life at Pier 36 in Donaghadee from 1pm.
