It is with deep heartache that we announce the passing of Paul James Smith at the age of 50 who passed away in the intensive care unit in hospital in Lima, Peru on the 14th June 2025.

Paul leaves behind his beloved fiancée, Maria Jose Bravo. Loving father to Ossian (16) & Elliott (28). Cherished son of Louise Harrison & the late Kenneth Smith. Adored brother of Daniel & Aislinn.

Paul was born on the 5th July 1974, grew up on the Antrim Road in North Belfast before attending secondary school at Garron Tower. Paul studied social work in Dundee and then Edinburgh before working with young and vulnerable people in Belfast as a social worker.

In his 30’s Paul moved to Peru and set up a chain of successful Irish pubs where he lived and worked.

Paul’s body returned to Belfast from Peru on the 26th of June with thanks to the Kevin Bell Trust.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday 1st July at 12:00 pm in St Therese of Lisieux Chapel on the Somerton Road followed by cremation in the Antrim & Newtownabbey Crematorium.

We invite anyone who knew Paul to attend.

Food and refreshments will be provided in the Lansdowne Hotel for family and friends to gather and remember Paul from 3pm onwards.
