Tommy passed away suddenly on 24th October 2025. He was a widely respected and dearly loved family man. He is sorely missed and loved by his wife Mary (nee Carland), his children Caroline Cairns (Daniel), Gerald (Claire), Emma (Conor) and Conor. His grandchildren Dáire, Éabha-Rose and Oisín, his brothers Brendan, Paul, sisters Mary (McHugh), Bernie (Devenney) and Jean (Mc Menamin), his brother-in-laws, sisters-in-law, his nieces, nephews, his large family circle and friends.
We, his family, wish to express our sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to all who sympathised, prayed for and supported us through our recent sad bereavement. We would like to acknowledge all those who paid their respects in any way, including those who lined the route to his home, called to the wake, telephoned, sent mass/sympathy cards, left messages via social media, brought food, helped tirelessly in the home over the days and sent flowers. A heartfelt thank you to those who joined us at the funeral mass. Sincere thanks to all our relatives, friends and neighbours who helped us in so many ways. To all those who travelled long distances to be with us.
A special word of thanks to Brendan Haughey and family, the First Responders and the Emergency Services who gave their all, but the time of Tommy’s departure was at hand.
A special word of thanks to all priests who called to our home to provide spiritual support Fr Kevin Mc Elhennon, Fr Malachy Gallagher, Fr Peter McAnely, Fr Thomas Canning, Fr Patsy Arkinson, Fr Paul Fraser and Fr John Gilmore. To Fr Peter Mc Anenly and Fr Malachy Gallagher who gave Tommy the last rites. For all those who lined the funeral route, those who helped to carry the coffin and joined us for the comforting mass provided by Fr Malachy Gallagher supported by Fr Paul Fraser. We convey our appreciation to the sacristans, everyone who took part in the Liturgy, especially our readers, those who helped with distribution of communion and our singer Sinead Mc Laughlin, who provided the beautiful music.
Special thanks to Killyclogher GAA, Tyrone LGFA, all the teams of District nursing staff, other professionals, Mills Contracts, Mallaghan Engineering and Australian friends for all their support. To all who provided equipment (Leo McAleer for the lights, PRO Hire for the heaters, the Meehan’s for the marquee, Killyclogher GAA for the chairs, teapots and geezer), buses from Buddies Childcare Centre and Nigel Mc Cullagh, all the drivers and those who provided traffic support from Killyclogher GAA and family friends.
Thank you to Charles Lynch Funeral Director and his team for their dignified and professional manner in which the funeral arrangements were carried out. To the grave digger Aerin Mc Gaughey for preparing Tommy’s final resting place.
Our sincere thanks to the Village Inn for providing refreshments after the funeral.
Finally, to Tommy’s GP Dr Scully and staff Drumquin, Bradley’s chemist and the support given by Dr Arkinson, his colleagues and the staff of Drumragh Family Practice.
As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledge as a token of our gratitude and appreciation.
Tommy is loved and missed every day; may his gentle soul be granted peace and eternal rest.
His month’s mind mass will be celebrated in St Mary’s Killyclogher on Sunday 30th November at 11am.
