William Gerald (Gerry) Sharkey
Died 23rd June 2026
We the family of the late Gerry Sharkey, 78A Templegrove, wish to express our heartfelt thanks and sincere gratitude to all those who sympathised with us on the heartbreaking loss of our beloved father, father in law, grandfather, brother and cousin.
We are deeply grateful to all our relatives, friends, and neighbours who called to the family home, helped at the wake, attended the funeral Mass, joined us via webcam, sent Mass cards, flowers, and messages of sympathy, and who kept us in their thoughts and prayers in any way.
A special word of thanks to the doctors, nurses, and all the staff of Ward 42, Altnagelvin Hospital, who cared for Gerry with such compassion and dedication, especially Dr Victoria McDowell, who worked tirelessly in his treatment, and Dr Kevin Harkin, who brought him such comfort and dignity in his final days. Gerry was deeply touched by the kindness shown to him, more than he ever felt he deserved, and we will always be grateful.
Our sincere thanks to the priests of the Three Patrons Parish, and in particular Fr Stephen Ward, for his visits, prayers, and words of comfort in Dad's final weeks, and for celebrating such a personal and fitting Requiem Mass, a reflection of their close relationship. Thank you also to Laura Brown, Erin Carlin, and Isobel Caldwell for the superb singing and musical accompaniment, which added such depth and meaning to the Mass.
Heartfelt thanks to Bradley & McLaughlin Funeral Directors for their professionalism and the genuine compassion shown to our family throughout.
Thank you also to the staff at the Waterfoot Hotel for the beautiful food and for facilitating such a lovely gathering, bringing together all those connected to Gerry to celebrate his life.
As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as a token of our sincere thanks and gratitude.
Gerry will be forever loved and sorely missed.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Gerry's Month's Mind Mass will be celebrated on Thursday 23rd July at 11:00am in St Joseph's Church, Galliagh.
