William James (Billy) BONES

The Directors and members of RDA Causeway Coast and Glens, formerly RDA Coleraine offers our sympathies on the death our former member and coach, Billy Bones.

Billy had been involved a long time we continually heard of his excellent work, especially on the coaching and especially the competition side of the ongoing activities at the original arena at 155A Castleroe Road. In particular we appreciated his fundraising efforts, and we still benefit from many of the people that he linked to RDA Coleraine

We also greatly appreciated his support in the fundraising activities in anticipation of the proposed new arena, especially when we attended Benvarden, and the various town squares, and at the Lammas Fair making arrangements for selling Raffle tickets.

When we started discussions for a new arena, initially on the redevelopment of the old site, and as that sites limitations became apparent, Billy soon recognised that we needed to rethink the location.

Also his interest and knowledge proved most helpful as the project developed, and we were delighted that he was able to see the project completed before his retirement.

Indeed, we missed his down to earth good sense and willingness to work at the less salubrious tasks, and again, please accept our deepest sympathies.

The committee and membership of Coleraine Historical Society deeply regret the passing of their friend and colleague Billy Bones, and extend their sympathy and support to Betty and the family.
It was always a pleasure to be in his company. He gave us some wonderful talks, laced as you would expect with his wit and humour.
