The death has occurred of:
William Robert (Bertie) IRWIN
The family of the late William Robert Irwin (Bertie) wish to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us during Bertie’s short illness, passing, and celebration of his life. We are deeply grateful for the kindness, care, and compassion shown by so many throughout this time.
Sincere thanks to the medical teams at the South West Acute Hospital, particularly the A&E staff, and to Altnagelvin Hospital and Bertie’s Consultant, Mr A. MacLeod, for their attentive and professional care. Special thanks also go to Dr McConville and the team of District Nurses whose dedicated support at home was truly outstanding.
To our extended family, friends, and neighbours – thank you for your continued presence and love. Your visits to Ballycassidy House, attendance at the funeral, cards, messages, and countless practical acts of kindness have brought immense joy and comfort during a very difficult time. The stories and memories shared about Bertie have been truly amazing and a great source of encouragement.
We are especially grateful to Rev. Robin Toner for his pastoral support and for leading a service that reflected Bertie’s life and faith so thoughtfully. Thanks also to Gareth Knox, whose musical choices on the organ captured Bertie’s spirit perfectly, and to the Silvertones, who sang with great meaning in honour of their dear friend and fellow member. We appreciate Robyn, Jorge, Ryan, Joshua, and Mark for their words of encouragement and tribute during the service.
Our gratitude also goes to the team of ladies who served refreshments after the service, and to all who helped in setting up and clearing away with such quiet efficiency and care.
Thanks to Rev Greg Alexander for his prayerful ministry to Bertie on his visits to his home. Dad enjoyed the chat!
Finally, heartfelt thanks to Keith Elliott and the team at Morrisons Funeral Directors for their calm, professional, and compassionate support throughout the arrangements.
We trust this acknowledgement will serve to cover all expressions of support and kindness, which have meant so much to us.
Bertie lived a life filled with kindness, integrity, and joy. As we give thanks for the legacy he leaves behind, we take comfort in these words:
"Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord."
— Matthew 25:23
With sincere appreciation,
