We have only learned today the sad news of John's death.
It seems so strange because he always gave the appearance of being indestructable.
John was a valued colleague at Queen's and a whole generation of Planning students owe him a great debt. Whilst always demanding the highest standards from them, he was invariably the first to argue the case for giving deserving cases a second chance.
At a personal level, we have fond memories of the many social occasions in which we enjoyed the friendly company of both John and Nan.
Our thoughts are particularly with Nan in her time of grief.
