Dearest Hester, Alice, Gillian and Jonathan,

On a Sunday afternoon in August of 2016, my brother and son knocked on Hester's door ~ she opened it to strangers (us), who turned out to be cousins (us), and we immediately had a new family in the Fatherland. Then we walked "Up Above"....

Mabel welcomed us as strangers into her home, served us with tea and biscuits, and made us feel as though we were members of her family...even though we were a family of McCunns from the States. The photos that we have of all of us - our new family - in her beautiful garden that afternoon, will be cherished forever.

Mable was a gracious, loving, caring matriarch, and a kind, giving and humble human being. What a joy for us to have known her in the best years of her life! We will miss her.

"Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there.
I did not die."

With intense grief, love and gratefulness to have known Mabel,
Maureen
