Tribute:

Noel Francis O’Hare

Noel was born in Beechmount Crescent but grew up only 300 metres from here in 128 Cavendish Street.

He attended St Pauls Primary then St Mary’s Grammar schools.

At school Noel met a girl from Waterford Street, Lenore McAreavey. They married young, here in St Pauls in fact, and they went on to have three children.

Noel and Lenore have been married for 53 years. Noel was quietly but fiercely devoted to his family. He was a wonderful grandfather to his grandsons Dylan and Finn.

Noel apprenticed as an aeronautical engineer at the naval yard in Belfast in the 60s then moved into medical X-Ray engineering.
In 2002 he formed his own business. This became a family business and he worked alongside his sons David and Colin and his wife Lenore. Even his daughter Margaret was pressed into service occasionally!

All his life Noel was an avid reader and he was a gifted and dedicated gardener.
Himself and Lenore travelled extensively throughout Europe.
Together they developed a particular love for the island of Crete which they returned to time and again with close friends.

Those who knew him in later life may be surprised to learn that he was a runner and a keen squash player, however in recent years Noel had a tough time with his health.
But as with everything he did, he approached these challenges with enormous fortitude and dignity.

The family are heartened by the amount of people who have reached for the same word to describe Noel – that he was a gentleman. An absolute gentleman.

The family would like to thank everyone who have sent their condolences and those of you who have attended today.

Noel’s committal service will be held tomorrow at Roselawn.
