Herbert Houston (Bertie) ALCORN

Died 18 March 2024, at the age of 100, peacefully after a short illness with his family by his side.

Cherished husband of the late Doreen and devoted father of Steven, Philip, Michael and Elaine, father-in-law of Vivien, Lila, Pam and Brian and grandfather of Nicholas, Tom, Peter, Harry and Jack. Lovingly remembered by his entire family circle and many friends.

The family home will be open to friends and family between 3pm – 8pm on Thursday, 21st and Friday, 22nd March.

A service of thanksgiving for Bertie’s life will be held in St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rosetta Rd, Belfast BT6 0LT on Tuesday 26 March at 2.30pm after a private family committal.

Family flowers only. Donations in lieu, if desired, to Air Ambulance NI and/or Cure Parkinson’s, please make any cheques payable to ‘Norman McBriar & Son’ Funeral Directors 37 Saintfield Mill, Saintfield, BT24 7FH (Call 02897519739 for any enquiries).

To us, Bertie was the essence of what the Irish calla lovely man' : friendly, welcoming, kind, curious, open to all sorts of new experiences, always willing to help and possessed of an extraordinary range of knowledge and skills. If he could not work out what the problem was and fix it, then it was obvious that it couldn't be fixed!

We send our sympathy, condolences and love to the whole Alcorn family. You will certainly miss him and mourn his loss, but, like us, you will have all kinds of fond memories and you will also know that lots and lots of others will miss him too.
