I shall miss Uncle Harry speak to me and calling me "Neeta", as he
always did, with his wonderful husky voice. I am his brother Davy's
daughter. After my dad died in Canada, uncle Harry took care of his
ashes, burying them in their beloved Belfast. Now my uncle, too,
has departed out of our time and into eternity, where if there is
no time, there is also all time, all moments past, present and
future....

In my mind's eye I can see an evening years ago, when 3 brothers,
Davy, Willie and Harry, had gathered with the rest of the family at
Willie's house on the death of their father. They were
commemorating his life and their own, recalling memories of
their childhood and growing up. One such: 3 boys upstairs in their
bedroom, chatting about the day that had been. Davy had started
working and could afford fegs, and was sitting against the wall
merrily enjoying his cigarette and passing it back and forth to
Willie. Harry, maybe 9 or 10 years old, was begging for his turn.
The two older brothers, however, kept it to themselves, with little
Harry becoming desperate for just a puff. Finally, when there was
little more than a butt left, Davy handed it over to Harry, who
sucked and puffed and got his little fix at last...

There were many memories of their childhood exchanged that evening
in the winter of 1972. Oh to imagine the 3 brothers together again,
laughing about old times, about times at the Blues matches, perhaps
reminiscing about the time Davy had to hold Harry back from an
angry Glens supporter taunting them from 2 rows away and Harry
ready to knock his lights out but held back by the scruff of his
neck!! Passionate and faithful, that was my Uncle Harry, to his
team, to his brothers, and, of course, to his family.

Uncle Harry would have made many, many more memories, with his wife
and children, and in time their children. All those times are part
of eternity, which he has now joined. Aunty Sally, Jeannie, Brian,
Lee, Michelle, Scott, Julie, Gavin: may you find comfort in the
memories. You know that Uncle Harry was so special to Lola and Beau
as well and that we all miss him. When you find your hearts aching,
missing his presence, I hope that those eternal moments give you
some ease.
